The Καφενείο του Κόσμου is an activity born out of the will of our volunteers in the office to have a weekly open activity to meet people and have relevant conversations about important topics within the scope of SCI.
Galya, from Ukraine, Eszter, from Hungary, Rosa, from Italy, and Tiago, from Portugal, together with the EVS coordinator, Martina, conceived the activity and called it World Café, with the idea to apply the methodology with the same name in the discussion of topics relevant to the activity of SCI Hellas, like peace, human rights and volunteering.
Later, we renamed it Καφενείο του Κόσμου, so we could be freer in the methodology planned for the sessions. Generally, the Καφενείο του Κόσμου is a place for people with similar interests to get together and share their opinions and experiences on different topics in a friendly environment, having a drink or trying snacks from different countries. Quite often, we also screen movies relevant to the topic.
So far, we’ve had around 15 sessions, where we have discussed topics like animal rights, the raise of extreme-right movements in Europe, long-term volunteering or the impact of social media in human relations. We want to proceed with this activity throughout 2015 and attract more people to meet us, get involved and propose topics to facilitate.
